About Knoxville

Knoxville, Tennessee, is a vibrant city nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Known for its rich history, scenic beauty, and strong sense of community, Knoxville offers a unique blend of urban and outdoor experiences. The city’s lively downtown and a thriving arts and music scene make it a unique and welcoming place. The Tennessee River flows through the heart of the town, providing opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, and riverside walks. Just a short drive away, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and many other small state parks are perfect for hiking, camping, climbing, and mountain biking.

Knoxville also serves as an ideal hub for biological fieldwork, with its rich ecosystems supporting a diverse array of plant and animal life. The nearby Smokies are a hotspot for research, attracting scientists and students from across the country. The area offers endless opportunities for hands-on learning and discovery in animal behavior in various organisms such as frogs, bees, fish, birds, and bats.
